Poem A Day/ April 18th, 2012 – Robert Vaughan

YOU’RE ALL/ ROBERT VAUGHAN

I was born with a broken heart
so I’ll put the cigarette to bed
arrange the sheets and pillows in
order on your side because
you’re all I don’t belong to.

Unbelievable how one more
night doesn’t feel like I
can have one more drink,
swallow one more lie,
you were mine.

What I’d
give for that first night back
to keep you alive.
