Poem A Day/ April 13th, 2012 – James Claffey

BROOKLYN, NY/ JAMES CLAFFEY

We had a baby. One hand missing.

A doll discarded after Christmas.

Everything I did displeased my wife.

Baby’sgummed mouth to her milky breast.

Her wedding band made my skin smell of burnt toast.

“You need to leave.”

Shed, like a cat leaving hair on a carpet.

The time for talk was past.
